Description

This connector facilitates the flush mounting of multiple Original Skadis boards. It is specifically designed for the BLACK Original Skadis board and any variants with a thickness of 4.8 to 4.9 mm. It might fit on the wooden board as well but I was not able to test this. The variant for the WHITE Board is available here. If you are uncertain about which variant to use, try this Hooks Clearance Tester first. Use the 2 hooks variant and test it on the sides that you plan to connect. The connector is intended for use when both boards are already mounted on the wall, either with the original mounts or third-party wall mounts.

Here are the key functions of the connector:

- Alignment and Stability: The connector ensures that one board doesn't become slightly recessed due to friction between the two boards.

- Reinforcement: It stiffens the center of the board, which typically lacks a mounting point to the wall.

- Tilt Prevention: If you followed IKEA's instructions, the bottom of the board is not mounted to the wall. Since the lower board has mounting points at the top, the connector helps to prevent the top board from tilting, albeit to a limited extent.

Boards 2024 and later

Be aware that IKEA may have changed their production process in 2024 to standardize the thickness of their boards. I purchased a black board in mid-2024, which is noticeably thicker than previous versions and now closely resembles the white board in thickness. However, this might be an isolated case, so I recommend measuring the thickness of your board before printing the adapter. If the fit is too tight, try using the connector designed for the white board, which allows for more tolerance (5.1mm to be precise).

Installation

There are two sizes of connectors available. The taller connectors are designed for the sides of the board where the holes are further apart. The print profile includes two short and two long connectors, which is an ideal combination for the largest Skadis boards. However, feel free to mix and match according to your needs. Ensure you properly remove the supports; otherwise, the gap between the connector and the hooks may be incorrect and you will have a hard time installing the connector. You will need to apply some force to push the connector down, which is completely normal. If you have trouble seating the connector, use a plastic tool (e.g. a printed bed scraper) to help push it into place. Avoid using hard objects, as they might scratch your board. Please be careful not to hurt yourself while doing this.
