About This Model
I made this to fill in empty grid spaces in my tool box. Putting the top surface down to the build plate allows the build plate pattern to be the “Top surface” and is the only visible side when inserted. This comes out really well when done right. My profiles have a very slow first layer and that makes the “top surface” very effective with plate patterns. Whether you only need a couple or you need well over 100 of these, They really make the grid base have a “finished” look vs having base plate showing all over.
I have printed with several types of filament to test different effects such as the Bambu Lab 3d effects sheets. Which works well in good lighting, however my garage doesn't have great lighting so I ended up on Black PLA with the textured build plate. This comes out really clean looking and looks way better than leaving random empty spots on the grid. Also it makes putting spare tools I don't have trays for, not look so tacky since it's a finished flat platform.
random person: why is there a 0.5x1 and a 0.5x0.5 piece in there?….why thank you for asking!
I made a half-grid based Gridfinity Universal Toolbox Collection and it works really well for the trays I have made so far(plenty more to work on), but this means I need half grid and a quarter grid piece just in case someone needs one. I made a 0.5 by 1-6 grid base for a filler on the ends where a full grid won't fit. the 0.5 fillers are perfect for that.
Magnets
I don't see many scenarios you would use magnets for these little guys, but if you do, follow below.
- If you wish to use 6x2 magnets or my Print-A-Magnet magnet replacement to secure the trays better, use the Secure-A-Magnet plate.
- Clone just a couple to test the fit, and print.
Insert the key in the desired position based on where in the grid it will sit. If they are a tight fit and not seated all the way, turn the tray upright and use a hard flat surface to press harder to get them to seat all the way in. The fit should be tight, if it is loose then the magnets will be loose. If you find the fit loose or cannot fit them at all, resize the insert X and Y axis, up or down by 0.05mm. Once the fit is good, clone many as you need (# of trays X magnets per tray)

Insert your 6x2 magnets or Print-A-Magnet then press it into the Grid

If you made it down here and feel inclined to browse my (newly growing) collection, you might find something you want. That's what we are all here for anyways!
