Description

⚠️ Challenging Print Ahead! ⚠️

Prepare for a complex but rewarding print with this detailed raven skull model, crafted from a Micro CT scan courtesy of the D’Arcy Thompson Zoology Museum at the University of Dundee. While this intricate design offers a strikingly realistic result, it’s not for the faint of heart!

🔹 Complex Design: The natural biological imperfections of the skull mean that even print errors won’t detract from its overall appearance, making it both challenging and forgiving in its own way.

🔹 Support Removal: Be prepared for tricky support removal. Tools like needle nose pliers, tweezers, or flush cutters will make the process much smoother and help protect the delicate sections.

🔹 Print Details: Due to the intricate and irregular structure of the skull, supports are absolutely required. For best results, we recommend using tree supports. Take extra care when removing supports from fragile sections of the print to avoid damage.

🎉 Version 3 Released 🎉

After months of criticism over the support nightmare of the print i decided to give it some attention. Thanks for the feedback!

Special thanks to @JohnDangle for uploading a print profile and schooling me in manual supports, so make sure you check out their prints and show them some appreciation.

  • Model Mods: Cleaned up in Blender and Nomad, removed some smaller difficult to print details and minor smoothing in select areas. Still maintains true to CT scan accuracy. Fixed “Non-Manfold” issues.
  • Fixed the Support nightmare: Thanks to @JohnDangle, I replicated and expanded on the manual tree support setup for the new model.
  • Triangle Reduction: From 1,288,592 to 945,518, Faster slicing without losing detail.
  • X-Y Hole Compensation: Set to “-0.26” to close some small holes
  • X-Y Contour Compensation: Set to "0.27" to add strength to fragile parts of the model.
  • Layer Height: 0.16mm for faster but still detailed print or 0.12mm to get that really fine look.
