Here are 2 videos about how I made this:

I printed mine with 1 wall, lightning infill and fuzzy skin on 0.6mm nozzle in Bambu Lab "white marble" PLA.

The base square of each spike is 40x40mm and there are 11 rows and 16 columns. I glued all the printed pieces onto a 70x50cm canvas - you can watch everything from slicing to printing to glueing plus lots of other useful info in the 2nd half of the 2nd video above (check video chapters)!

The files here are designed and sized to be printed on a X1C or printer of a similar size. If you want to print this model at full size but on a smaller printer or if you would like to scale things way up, you can also get the STL with the 176 individual numbered spikes here: https://chrisprenn.gumroad.com/l/stlwallart

UPDATE March 2025: Updated the two print profiles to have 12 build plates matching the layout! Before, it was a bit confusing which piece goes where. Hope this helps :)

Sound technicians like to point out that this is not a "real" sound diffuser. My response: It is not a flat surface and therefore diffuses the sound. It is not meant for professional applications where you might need to diffuse and/or absorb specific reflections and frequencies but since there are many products out there that are simply non-flat surfaces and sold as "sound diffusers", I think I can call it that as well. And even if it doesn't do anything for the sound, it is still a cool piece of 3D-printable DIY wall art ;)
