V2 UPDATE - Martian bust has been modified with variable layer height and concentric top layer for improved finish.  Ship has been modified to have 6 larger legs with flat tips to allow for proper slicing to print fully and touch the ground.  Pegs on top of ship have been narrowed for a future update.

This amazing sculpture was made by simonarri almost a decade ago, so I wanted to give it a refresh and bring it into the Bambu Universe.

I started with assembling the head and shoulders and sculpting them together for a nice smooth transition. Next, I proceeded to fill the ship and assemble it into a solid unit (was previously a shell and tray). After that I worked on fitments and tolerances until it all fit nicely together and added pegs to assemble it without any glue required.

GLASS DOME (OPTIONAL) - Please follow this link to order the correct item quickly and easily

When I finished I realized there wasn't a glass dome on the market which fit the model, so I searched around until I found a commonly sold item - the “LED Rainbow Rose” which can be purchased at gift shops or Amazon in most countries. When the rose arrived I easily dismantled the dome from the base but found out from a glazier friend that trimming it down would be very risky and there was a very good chance it would shatter so I redesigned the base to fit the dome, and have included the original base if you find something shorter, prefer that base and/or not bothering with the glass.

FYI, the dimensions of the glass dome are 200mm tall and 91mm wide made out of 2mm glass (OD 91mm, ID 87mm). The short base would require a dome approx 140mm tall.

For the print I used a tri-color silk PLA for the head, blue cobalt metal PLA for the shoulders/suit, and a silver PLA for the ship. Supports left little to no scarring and were extremely easy to remove except for one spot between the “gills” and the jaw.

Painting is highly encouraged and I look forward to seeing your makes!
