Description

Dum Dum Batteries

Apart from use as a blank battery, the Dum Dum Battery allows you to connect a bench power supply directly as though using a battery/batteries.

Why not just connect to terminals you may ask?

Well maybe you haven't even opened it yet, or you want to run a trace wire through to an awkward location, such as sliding a battery into a hole, without taking the case off.

You can simply set your bench power supply to the required V/A and know that you have a working battery to hand.

  • Size AA (AAA to follow)
  • Terminals to connect multiple connection types from your PSU
  • Run a cable from + to - to bridge a connection
  • Single print, no need for supports!!!! (even though it may recommend) all example photo's were printed without supports

Required Standard Paper fasteners to act as cell terminals.*****

You can buy a pack of 45 of these for £0.69 ($1)p at The Range, I paid £3.99 ($5) for 75 at WH Smiths…point is they're cheap, depending on where you go. You need the split types….they're very common.

You will need 2x per battery.

*****I haven't listed in parts below because. when I click parts needed as well as (other parts) where I would list these, it has a mandatory Bambu parts field???? there's no Bambu parts needed. So I couldn't submit.

Step 1

insert Paper fasteners as shown in clips

Step 2

Insert clips into top and bottom of batter chassis, ensuring the exposed side is visible through the PSU connector holes as shown.

Step 3

The bottom (-) should be completely recessed into the case, the top (+) should stick out a bit…like a normal AA battery.

Step 4

Use it! I assume since you have a bench PSU, you don't need me to tell you how to wire anything, or us it.

Here I show you some photos of my use and testing. With 1.5v and 300ma, this will perform like a regular AA, albeit a little clunky…but its for test purposes only

Here I am, powering a Gameboy Colour, showing a range of attachments, (3v 300ma .6w)…it worked…I mean, there's not much to these as you can see, not to work!

Here I use a bent paperclip to form a pass-through if needed, handy for vertical insertions. Maybe consider insulating if needs suit. I found curling the ends made a better grip and insertion.
