Description

This is a simple mod to the incredible Sunbu Labs creation/project by @MrX.3D!

I have seen a couple reports on the original post about others having issues with incorrect RFID readings/reading the wrong spool. Some users had success with flipping the RFID coil over, spreading the wires further apart, or creating a small barrier between the two spools wires. None of these fixes seemed to work for me and no matter what I tried, I could not get the spillage to stop. But then I noticed that if I backed the spool off of the holder by just a very slight amount, roughly 3mm, the spillage and incorrect readings stopped!

So I went to work and modified the legs the incorporate this extra width. This modification simply widens the spool legs by about 3mm. Seems minimal but it is just enough distance to push the RFID coils away from the opposite spool effectively killing the chance of reading the wrong RFID tagged spool. There is no need to reprint the spool holders as they were designed with enough length to still work with this mod. All you need are these extended legs and clips which are both included in the print file.

I printed and tested this with 3 different brands of PETG and can confirm this is definitely effective. If you would like to be extra safe, you can add a layer of tin foil between the two legs to add an extra layer of “blockage” to this mod, though not necessary.

Let me know how it works for you or if you have any questions!
