"Just in Case" Gift Card Box - Dad Joke Present

I have seen the “Just in Case” joke boxes forever, and just for fun a few years ago I crudely edited one of the models to make the “Just” part removable and scaled it to hold a gift card for my brother. That way it was not just a pun, but could truly be used just in case he needed something. It was such a hit with my friends and family that I ended up making a bunch more for them to pass out as gift card holders to their friends as well.

I decided to revisit that idea and made this purpose built model specifically to be a gift card holder that includes the “Just” insert to complete the classic “Just in Case” joke. But I also tried to make this model more than just a joke, and the box can also actually be used to just store gift or bank cards as well. The insert can be removed, glued into the lid, or you can just stack up a bunch of cards under it. Also the latches are just small friction clips, but they actually do a good job of holding the lid closed.

The case prints as a single object with integrated non-removable hinges and no supports. I set the tolerances to a comfortable margin for my machine and with default PLA settings it prints out really nicely and does not bind up at all. I printed the insert on a separate plate to minimize color changes for the AMS, but I also included a single color print profile that places the insert and box on a single plate.
