Description
So we had a competition in my mechanical engineering school where we had to make a centrifugal waterpump that would have maximal flowrate within 20 seconds, so after looking at multiple different pumps and impellers, i ended up on this model. The model got the second place in the competition with a flowrate of 1760ml/min
Components Needed:
- 9V DC motor
- Gasket / Rubber mat cut into shape
- (4x) M3 x 33mm screws and bolts.
- PLA Basic filament / Recommended to use other filaments with more hydrophobic attributes for a higher flowrate.
- 8mm width plastic tubing for the output/input.
- Small o-ring for the motor's shaft so it will be watertight
- ( Optional ) Small washer to lessen the area of contact with the impeller and base.
- 4x AA-Batteries for powering the pump, will work for a few runs well before needing new batteries
Asssembly:
- Take the motor mount, and push it to be on the motor
- Push the motor into the bottom of the main casing, making sure the mount goes in snugly
- Insert your impeller onto the motor shaft
- Apply your choice of sealant onto the sides of the base before placing down the top
- Screw all four screws with bolts on really tightly ( But not too much since it will bend the plastic and make it not watertight )
Functionality:
- If you choose to use better materials and good lubricants for the impellers base, you can get a noticeable boost in flowrate, and this sized pump is really easy to use for any smaller gaps / places to pull water out of.
- Good for small competitions and to learn the functionality of a centrifugal waterpump!
