Summary

This is a life-size replica of the legendary WWII Mk2 frag grenade that has a spring-loaded flying handle, just like the real thing.

Spring options (for flying handle)

  1. Metal Spring (recommended) – if you have a metal spring, even a pen spring will usually work, then print the metal spring profile.
    1. Bambu Store's 0.5x7x12mm spring is what this model is designed to work with.
    2. Pen springs work as well though, many different types have been tested and work fine.
      1. You can often cut pen springs in half and get two grenade springs since this model only needs a 12mm long spring and pen springs tend to be about 24mm.
  2. Plastic Spring – if you don't have a metal spring, but still want the handle to fly off, then print the plastic spring profile.
    1. If the spring eventually wears out, just print a new one and pop it in.
    2. Don't leave the spring under tension when not using it as it will wear out much faster.
    3. Avoid Matte and Silk filament for the spring itself, Basic and Metal work better.
  3. No Flying Handle - if you don't want the handle to fly off and just want a grenade model, simply print either version and don't put in a spring.

Bambu Filaments used

[v2] Metal Spring Assembly

1. Insert the peg into the topper, as you see below.  Make sure it comes out the bottom, if not, rotate 90 degrees.

2. Then insert the metal spring where you previously inserted the peg, as you see below.

3. Lastly, screw the top onto the grenade – doing this upside down ensures that the spring doesn't fall out of the top.

[v2] Plastic Spring Assembly

1. Insert the plastic spring into the topper.  Make sure it is coming out of the topper, if not, rotate the spring until it does.

2. Lastly, screw the top onto the grenade – this is much easier to do upside down.

[Old v1] Metal Spring Assembly

The above image is from the flashbang, but the installation is the same, hold the grenade upside down and insert the peg, that way the spring doesn't fall out.

Boost Me (for free)

If you enjoy my work and would like to help support my ability to share more (and even better) models in the future, please consider boosting or buying me a coffee at the link below.   Your support is what helps me have enough filament and supplies to do all the print testing required for my models to be high quality and easy to assemble.  It takes a mountain of test prints for each model. Thanks :-)

Here's a link to my Buy Me a Coffee page, thanks for the support!
