This is my third lantern design for the Lunar New Year, featuring eight openwork characters: “巳巳如意 新春快乐”. With a small light installed, the light shines through the lantern, projecting the characters onto the wall—a captivating effect!

My other two lantern designs:

Traditional Style: https://makerworld.com.cn/zh/models/733436#profileId-692483

Openwork Style: https://makerworld.com.cn/zh/models/761272#profileId-727962

This lantern shares accessories with the openwork design. For multiple lanterns in a string, print the openwork base with the hanging hole.

It serves as both an ornament and a delightful handheld object. It looks beautiful with or without the small light installed.Aside from the internal light, all components are 3D printed; no hardware is included. Using red and gold filaments, one spool per color, with no color changes required—suitable for A1 mini printing and no AMS needed.

Note: Compared to the previous two lanterns, removing supports from this one is more challenging, particularly around the openwork characters. Exercise extreme caution during support removal. Using a sprue cutter and needle-nose pliers is recommended. Cut internal supports into smaller segments before removal.

Assembly Guide

Installing the Top Cover

1. Thread the small hook through the hole in the top cover, and press the cylindrical clasp fully.

2. Screw the top cover onto the lantern.

Installing the Base

1. Attach the small light fixture to the small light. One side has two recesses; the other has one, corresponding to the protrusions on the light's plastic piece. The two raised sides of the fixture face downward; avoid installing it backward.

Skip this step if you are not using the small light.

2. Snap the fixture into the base's clasps. The light switch aligns perfectly with the hole in the base.

3. Screw the base onto the lantern.

Attach the rod using the long hook and connect it to the lantern to complete the assembly.
