Description

Introduction

After months of inactivity (life gets busy!), I’m thrilled to share my latest project with the community. Recently, I bought some 22L Samla boxes from IKEA to organize and protect my extra filament spools. Naturally, I needed a way to keep moisture at bay, so I started searching for a silica gel container that would fit inside the Samla boxes.

But I couldn’t find anything that truly worked for me:

  • I wanted to change the silica gel without removing the filament spools.
  • I didn’t want to cut, drill, or modify the original lid in any way.
  • I wanted the container to stay securely in place, no matter where I placed it.

When no existing solution checked all the boxes, I created my own. The result is the DryKeeper Series—magnetic silica gel holders designed to attach to any flat surface up to 5-6 mm thick! It's designed for Ø12 magnets, but will work with Ø10 as well.

 

What Makes the DryKeeper Unique?

The DryKeeper containers are equipped with magnets that allow you to securely attach them to the inside of the Samla box lid or any other flat surface (like a cabinet or shelf). This means:

  • No modifications to your storage box.
  • Easy placement and removal, keeping your setup flexible.
  • A neat, non-intrusive solution for effective moisture control.

Model Variations

To ensure maximum versatility, I designed six variations:

Small (210 mm x 70 mm x 26.4 mm; Volume: 225 mL)

  1. Simple, without a hygrometer
  2. With a cutout for a rectangular hygrometer
  3. With a cutout for a circular hygrometer

Large (210 mm x 145 mm x 26.4 mm; Volume: 510 mL)

  1. Simple, without a hygrometer
  2. With a cutout for a rectangular hygrometer
  3. With a cutout for a circular hygrometer

Assembly

The lid is designed to snugly fit onto the body of the container. However, to ensure the magnets stay firmly in place—especially when replacing the silica gel or moving the container—I recommend securing the container with two rubber bands. This extra step ensures everything stays secure and functional, even during regular use.
