Description

Introduction

This organizer was designed with those, like me, who have limited space. It's a highly versatile and elegant system that allows for the storage of a wide variety of items. Not just for 3D printers, it can be used to store:

  • Office supplies.
  • Small tools.
  • standardized elements such as screws, nuts, washers, metal inserts, helicoids.
  • and more. …

Additionally, it can hold:

  • batteries.
  • sewing materials.
  • diorama supplies, such as inks, brushes, and other material.

These are just a few examples of what you can do with this model, which I've decided to call 'Storage Tree'.

This will fo hand-in-hand with the already released PRUSA Mk2.5 to Mk4 Flexible steel sheets - Project Leaf in a couple of days a Bambulab compatible version will be made available to all. More stuff will rollout very soon, I don't want to release all at once just in case something goes wrong (hope not).

Design Statement

"Tree Modular Storage System" — where functionality meets elegance in a harmonious blend of industrial with some biophilic design influence.

In the modern era where space is a premium commodity, our design ethos revolves around modularity, offering versatility to adapt to any living or working environment. Almost every module seamlessly integrates into the next, allowing for effortless customization tailored to your spatial needs.

The Leaf Modular Storage System transcends mere utility, becoming a statement piece that enhances any room with its graceful presence.

Crafted with precision and attention to detail, the system optimizes storage space without compromising on aesthetics. Every element is thoughtfully engineered to maximize efficiency, providing ample room for organization while maintaining a sleek and sophisticated appearance.

The project, Storage Tree

Despite its simple appearance, this project presents some interesting technical details.

The concept is based on a tree structure, with a strong and stable root that provides stability. The trunk is segmented so that it can grow as needed, then, we have the branches and leaves that can be aligned in any desired way. Like branches of a tree, they also contribute to balance, creating a complex yet harmonious system capable of accommodating numerous 'fruits,' which are simply the things you wish to store.

As it is a vertical storage system, it is compact. The leaves, when placed in staggered positions, can be covered with a lid, thus helping to protect whatever is inside from dust.

Construction

As previously mentioned, the concept behind the Storage Tree is to create a multi-layered storage system that develops vertically, thereby saving space. This design allows for a minimalist configuration with just the base and one "leaf," but it also accommodates the addition of more "leaves" as needed.

These can be arranged to maintain balance, or aligned as demonstrated in the example where three aligned leaves each have ample material, yet the structure remains stable...

And a little clip to show an example of use.

Printing process.

The entire project was designed to make the printing of different elements simple, allowing them to be produced on all kinds of FDM printers, even those without multiple material feeding systems.

In this project, no one is left out because I want everyone to be able to benefit from this modular system, which also serves as a gateway to the MMSS I developed a few months ago, which is so successful.

For does who use Bambu Studio or Orca slicer, you only need a simple file (Storage Tree_Start.3mf) Band you are done (I hope Prusa Slicer implement multiple plates on their software, this really make things easier, and why not? Bambu Studio and Orca Slicer are branches for Prusa Slicer…

Main Components

This are de main parts that you need to construct a most basic “Storage Tree.”

PLA Components

  • 1 or more: Subdivided Leaf's:
    • Storage Leaf_Simple 4 divisions.3mf (optional)
    • Storage Leaf_Simple 3 divisions.3mf (optional)
  • 1 or more: Storage Storage Leaf with Tpu strips.3mf(optional)
  • and another one, this adding some modularity to the leaf with boxes that can be added any way you like.

Boxes sizes are approximated values:

  • 132x63mm
  • 63x63mm
  • 63x28mm
  • 28x25mm
  • if needed: Trunk Segment.stl
    • You will need this component to grow more leaf's, or to add a lid on the leaf if you don't have more space.
  • 1 or more: Lid.stl
    • This component can be added in 2 situations, on the last leaf, or for each leaf if you are thinking of placing the sheets at different angles, in order to balance the weight.
Simple Lid.stlLid with Stripes.stl (Not available for PRUSA without MMU
  • 4 and multiples of 4: Editable_Label.3mf
    • You can edit the text as you need on Prusa Slicer, just doble click on it and change it.
  • If you are using bambu Slicer, you can edit the texto too. Right Click on field “edit text”:

PETG Components

  • 1 or more - Bush.stl (see section view above)

Flex / TPU Components

  • 1x Anti-Slip Ring.stl
  • 1x pack for each storage leaf: StorageLeaf_TPU-Strips.3mf

Material that I've used.

Final Note

It's important to note that all of this work has been done voluntarily, with a lot of love and dedication. Tests have been conducted, time and material have been invested, so a small token of appreciation would be greatly appreciated. A simple thank you is enough, but if you'd like, there are other ways you can support this ongoing development. Specific 3D printer storage leaf's will go under the my club member ship, so if you like this, stay tuned.

edit: updating to 5 stars as this may just be an issue with my printer. if anyone else solved stringy filaments, please let me know! I love this print and really wanted to give it 5 stars, but I don't understand why it has this unsupported channel on the bottom. This caused a ton of stringy filaments on an otherwise perfect print.

that’s for a TPU ring. in my case I got zero strings, just a perfect overhang. that why I’ve disable the supports there, and they were not so easy to remove … for others, DO not add supports there ! thanks for showing your make and the nice rate ;)

hey, thanks for responding. maybe this is an issue with my printer/filament if you're getting perfect prints. the TPU ring is a great idea.

So much wasted space. When you add anything heavy, the drawer sags because they are all aligned to one side, you have to open them up to make it balanced which defeats the whole space saving idea. Fun concept but not a good space optimized design. I don't recommend this if you're looking for a storage solution that is practical and space efficient. Don't waste your time.

it’s like that when you don’t read the description and understand the concept, and that is sad …

I stopped reading at "who have limited space" because it's not very space efficient. I understand that you do not know the meaning of space saving. It is very sad... that you wasted time writing a description for this flawed concept.

The item is great but the lack of detailed instructions is a let down. I did end up supporting you on Printables but I ended up not using this because I hate that the post hole for the leaves is on the top left, but the support post on the base is in the middle. That takes up so much more space as a result and made it completely impractical for me.

Is this your version of the ergo capsule for the X1C? BTW, I’m the same person who asked for the ergo capsule for the X1C.

hi. thanks for reaching out. no the capsule is a very small container specifically made mostly formini… so, this is a completely new project that can be used with many printers, bambu labs and more. see image. some are available only on printables club members (the more specific ones)
